Adaptation of Anglicisms in Polish and Czech

Results

The study on the degree of adaptation of English loans in Polish and Czech was performed between 2012 and 2015, with a long break in the middle intended for other tasks in the project. The results – only partially in line with expectations – are included in report 1, the source data are in the appendix.

Report 1Appendix

An unplanned effect of the aforementioned study was cataloguing the adaptation patterns of English loans in Polish and Czech and measuring their frequency in the material under inspection. Based on this it became possible to establish the typical adaptation order, i.e. the sequence in which the pronunciation, spelling and grammar of English loans adjust to the Polish and Czech languages. The results are included in report 2.
